When K-12 and Legal Interpreting Meet
Dawn Duran
Educational interpreters working in the K-12 setting are consistently tasked with assessing and interpreting for situations that are inherently legal. It can be difficult to pinpoint when a K-12 interpreter has the commensurate skills combined with ethical decision making in these legal situations. This workshop will explore the ethics of various situations, connect those decisions to the RID CPC and NAIE Code of Ethics, examine linguistic options and analyze case scenarios in small group discussions.

Reducing Harm Through Trauma Informed Interpreting
Dawn Duran
This workshop is designed to prepare interpreters to interpret in contexts involving all forms of abuse including sexual and/or domestic violence. While language plays a role in this workshop, it is more specifically focused on the dynamics related to trauma-informed interpreting. A trauma-informed practitioner assumes that a person has experienced trauma and takes measures to prevent further harm.
